RESOURCES
These are the travel tools I use regularly to plan and book my trips. I’ve built this list based on what actually works for me—especially for longer, independent trips through Europe. No sponsored links, just honest recommendations.
I’ll expand this page as I discover new resources worth sharing.
Flights
Skyscanner
I usually start my search with a flight comparison tools but book direct with the airline whenever possible. It’s often easier to manage delays or cancellations that way.
But for more complex itineraries—or when flying long-haul—I’ve found a good travel agent can be worth their weight in gold.
For our most recent trip, we booked business class flights through an Australian agent and ended up with a better deal than anything I could find online. Plus, if flights are delayed or cancelled, the agent can step in to rebook or troubleshoot on your behalf.
Transportation
Welcome Pickups
My favourite way to get from the airport to my accommodation is by booking a private transfer in advance. It’s the least stressful option—no navigating public transport, no trying to find the Uber pick-up point, and no risk of being overcharged by a taxi. You’ll know the price before you land, and someone will be waiting to meet you, even if your flight’s delayed.
DiscoverCars
Rental cars are easiest through Discover Cars, which compares major providers in one place.
Booking Accommodation
Booking.com
My go-to for accommodation. I like the generous filters (essential for finding places with an elevator, fridge, or air-conditioning), free cancellation on many listings, and helpful reviews.
Airbnb
I use this occasionally for longer stays when I need a kitchen or laundry.
Here’s where I book my tours!
Viator & Get Your Guide
I often use platforms like Viator and GetYourGuide to book tours and entry tickets in advance—especially for skip-the-line access or small-group experiences. Both offer a wide range of options, from city walking tours to guided day trips.
I particularly appreciate the clear information they provide, like maps of the meeting point and the option to cancel for free up to 24 hours before the tour—very helpful when plans change.
Guruwalk
GuruWalk is a platform for tip-based walking tours—often described as “free,” but you’re encouraged to pay what you feel the tour is worth. The general guideline is around €10 per person, depending on the length and quality. I’ve done 14 tours through GuruWalk so far, and 13 of them have been excellent. It’s a great way to get oriented in a new city, often with talented local guides who bring real personality to the experience.
Travel Money
Wise
This is the travel card I use. It gives excellent exchange rates, works across multiple currencies, and is easy to manage from the app.
XE Currency App
Handy for checking live exchange rates, especially when offline.
Planning Tools
Rome2Rio
Brilliant for seeing all your transport options between two destinations. Helpful for planning train, bus, or ferry routes.
Google Maps
I save pins for everything from restaurants to train stations. Also great for checking opening hours and navigating on foot.
Note: I don’t currently have affiliate partnerships with any of these sites. These are simply the tools I rely on most while planning and travelling.
